When shopping around for breakdown cover, you need to keep a couple of things in mind.  Ask the agent how long the average response time is after they receive a call about a breakdown.  You want to find a carrier that has a fast response time, it’s no good waiting around for a couple of hours for them to show up and fix a flat.

Also ask what percentage of cars are fixed at the roadside.  The sooner you get your car fixed the better and cheaper it will be.  Having your car towed to a mechanic and waiting for it to be fixed costs time and money.  In case your car does need towing, you need to ask if they will cover the costs.

Don’t forget to ask about discounts.  If you have more than one car in your household, many insurance carriers will provide you with a discount.

Lastly, compare prices with a few insurance carriers.  Ask specific questions about what and what not is covered in each policy and you can forget the stress a break down brings.
